If you’ve ever applied for a job interview at Apple, Facebook, or Amazon, you know that the process of getting an interview can be a long and arduous one.
To keep it from becoming more difficult, we asked some experts on the subject of getting a job and interviewing at those companies to share some of their tips on getting your interview experience off to a good start.
“Getting your interview done at the right place is the key to getting your job,” said Katherine Lamb, an assistant professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business and author of The First Interview.
“It is one of the biggest mistakes a candidate can make in any job interview,” she said.
“The person who doesn’t have that experience has no clue what to expect.”

For most people, the first step in getting your application in to a job is to find a place to meet with your interviewer.
You can usually find a coffee shop, coffee shop where you can sit in front of a computer and talk about your qualifications, and a coffee lounge where you’ll meet other people who might be able to help you with your interview.
“You need to get the interview done in a coffee room,” said Lamb.
“That’s where the best interview experience is.”
The other important step, according to Lamb, is finding a place where you don’t have to wait in line to get your interview, or in some cases, where you are allowed to sit in a small area and talk to people.
She recommends sitting in a corner, which is usually reserved for those who are sitting in the middle of a coffee house.
“We’re not here to wait around in the cold, or get dirty, but to find the right people to interview,” Lamb said.
For those looking for a little more freedom, Lamb also recommends having a group of people to sit with you in your interview room, and that you find a space where you aren’t expected to leave.
You should also set up a meeting place so that the interviewees can talk and have a chance to talk to each other.
“If you have someone who’s going to sit there and ask questions and not listen to the other people, then that’s the wrong place,” she explained.
“When you’re sitting there, you’re not going to talk.
It’s just people who are there to talk.””

“You’re the one who’s expected to talk, and you’re going to make sure they are.”

Eisen said that the most important part of the interview process is getting to know the interviewer.
“The interviewer is the person that you talk to, and they’re not just your friend,” he said.
Eisen said that a good way to learn about a candidate is to ask questions about themselves.
“I think it’s important to know who they are before you start asking questions,” he explained.
You want to know, ‘Who are you?
Are you from somewhere?’
You want them to be like, ‘Oh, you’ve got this job, you really know what you’re doing.’
“If you’re an inexperienced candidate, Eisen said, “you need to be ready to give a speech, or to read a paper, or something like that.
You have to understand what you’ve read and what you want to say.””
Eisen also recommended that you make sure that you have a clear plan of what you are looking for when you meet the person. “
I would tell you that this is not a very glamorous interview, but if you’re ready for it, it’s going in the right direction.”

You need to explain why you want the job and who you want it to be.
“It’s not necessarily about what you would want to do,” said Rosenblum.
“What are the strengths and weaknesses of your career and what do you want from your employer?”
“You also need to understand how you fit in with the other candidates, and if you want someone who will really help you,” Rosenblom said.
“If someone is new, it might be hard to connect with them, and it might take a while for them to connect,” Rosenbleom added.
“But you can make sure you’re communicating what you like about your experience and what they like about you, and what makes you different from them.”
